The Care Quality Commission has confirmed from 1st April 2010 a new registration process will commence for all care providers in England until 1st October 2010.
Care providers who will now have have to be registered who did not have to register previously include the NHS, GP's and Supported Living.
From 1st April 2010 all care providers will be sent a registration pack, requesting information on the number of homes they own, type of residents, number of residents etc. The forms will have to be fully completed and returned to CQC within 28 days of receipt to avoid any delays in the registration process. If the forms are not returned within 28 days, the CQC wil try and process the applications when received but they do not guarantee registration by their deadline of 1st October 2010. If a care provider is not registered by 1st Octover 2010 they will not be able to trade until CQC has completed the process and fully registered the care provider.
The new registration process will be based on the legal entity e.g. Ltd Company, partnership etc not on each individual home as per the previous registration process, therefore, only one registration will be required
Please refer to the CQC Guidance Framework for further details.
